Session 84
Some days are too good to be true, especially if we spend it in a festive mood, in the company of food and friends. We had a lovely session with three great speeches, rich evaluations and fun-filled table topics. AND we finished on time. Those who are missing the sessions are...well...missing them.
Our SAA Suvojit kicked off right on time with a message to get out of our comfort zone.
Our acting President, TM Rupasree, related to us a powerful inspirational story about how an eagle, after it is 40 years old, retreats to a secluded place and pulls out its talons and feathers in a effort to grow them all over again. We too sometimes need to stop, introspect and reinvent ourselves. A good message Prez.
TMOD Sutanu had chosen as a theme - you guessed it - Festival, Food and Friends, not unexpectedly with Durga puja around the corner. Tm Rupasree and TM Sutanu did a little play-acting in the beginning to kick-start this fun-filled session. He was energetic and funny and he introduced all role-players with a few lines of appreciation.
The General Evaluator TM Rajat was introduced and he in turn introduced his team members - Timer, Ah-counter, Grammarian and Parliamentarian - who gave brief descriptions of the roles they would play. Then we were off and running.
There were three speeches scheduled today, with three powerful speakers gracing the podium.
The first speaker was TM Basant Daga, with a speech titled "Age is Just a Number". By the end of his speech, he had convinced the audience that there is no right age for any achievement and it was totally up to the calibre and enthusiasm of the person concerned.
The second speaker was TM Vidwata Mohta, with a speech intriguingly titled "Horn Not OK Please". She spoke convincingly about the menace of noise pollution through uncontrolled honking, which neither do we prevent nor abstain from. We practically took a pledge to make streets honk-free.
The third speaker was TM Panna Ray, with a speech enigmatically titled "X is equal to Y". It turned out to be a speech about gender-discrimination and the gender-stereotypes we ourselves carry in our minds and pass on to our children in the way we bring them up. A lot of us identified with the idea. Young members who were not yet married stored it at the back of their minds for the distant future.
The stage was cleared for the Table topic session, being conducted by TM Ayushi. She chose the topics on the theme of festivals. Some of the topics, though apparently simple proved to be googlies for the audience, but some of the speeches lit up the stage like firecrackers.
The baton was back in the hands of the GE. The speech evaluators TM Daliya, TM Varun and TM Mehul evaluated the speakers mentioned earlier, respectively, admiring the strengths in the speeches and suggesting how the speeches could be lit up further. All three evaluations were of a high standard and would definitely be useful to the speakers.
The evaluation team - Timer TM Sahil, Ah-counter TM Abhishek, Grammarian TM Siddharth and Parliamentarian TM Fatima - gave their reports in detail. TM Rajat concluded the feedback session with his observations on the overall conduct of the session, as well as one-liner feedbacks to all the table topic speakers. A significant improvement to the hall layout was moving the Timer's desk to the central aisle last row, ensuring visibility to all the role-players.
The President gave her closing remarks and declared the day's awards, suitably ending a day of festivities:
